Full Moon Tour: Devil's Throat in the Dark

Riding the jungle train by lantern light, crossing deserted walkways over the Iguazú River, and witnessing the mystical lunar rainbow over the thundering cascades.

Full Moon night tour on the catwalks of Devils Throat at Iguazu Falls illuminated by silvery moonlight

Experiencing Iguazu Falls in daylight is awe-inspiring; standing at the edge of Devil's Throat in pitch blackness, guided solely by the radiant white light of a full moon reflecting off 80 meters of roaring mist, is a rare spiritual journey that few travelers ever witness.

This tour does not run every day. The Argentine National Park authority operates it strictly across 5 consecutive nights each month aligned with the full moon cycle. Each evening features three limited departure slots escorted by park rangers and wilderness guides.

How the Night Unfolds

1. Central Station & Lantern-Lit Jungle Train

Between 7:45 PM and 8:30 PM, visitors enter the dark park grounds and board the open-sided Ecological Jungle Train outfitted with soft vintage lanterns. Gliding through 20 minutes of nighttime rainforest in profound silence—surrounded by nocturnal jungle sounds—is an unforgettable prelude.

2. Walk Across the Silent River

Arriving at Devil's Throat Station, you traverse the 1.1-kilometer metal footbridge suspended over the upper river. Guides ask everyone to extinguish phone screens and flashlights: within moments your eyes adjust, and the moon transforms the rushing water into a mirror of molten silver.

3. The Abyss & The Elusive "Moonbow"

Reaching the platform, you gaze into the thundering chasm. Under optimal clear skies, moonlight refracts through the rising curtain of water droplets to form a lunar rainbow (moonbow): an ethereal, ghostly silver arch hovering in the night sky.

The Midnight Transportation Problem

Public buses between the park and Puerto Iguazú stop running at 8:00 PM. When the late tours conclude between 11:30 PM and 1:00 AM, the national park parking lot is pitch black, located 20 km (12 miles) outside Puerto Iguazú and 35 km (22 miles) from Foz do Iguaçu.

Spontaneous taxis are virtually non-existent, and for travelers staying on the Brazilian side, returning involves crossing an international customs checkpoint at 1:30 in the morning.
